Jen Averill, Head Coach
Head Coach, Jen Averill, is entering her 20th season at Wake Forest University and is the most successful coach in Wake Forest history. In January of 2010 she was inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame. She led the Demon Deacons to nine final four appearances and captured three NCAA championships in 2002, 2003, 2004. She also won three ACC championships in 2002, 2003, and 2006. The team is consistently a top ranked team and always the team to beat. Averill has won numerous coaching awards and was named the 2002, 2003 and 2006 National Coach of the Year. Many of Averill’s players have attained All-American and national honors, with several players on the national team, with two players representing the US at the Olympic Games of Beijing. Averill’s success is not surprising, since in her playing days she was a premier player as a four time All-American at Northwestern, 1987 Honda Broderick Nation’s Best Field Hockey Player and Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year, and the Northwestern Female Athlete of the Decade for the 1980s.
Averill is involved in all aspects of camp and is present for all training sessions and is one of the best field hockey coaches in the nation. Averill’s
charismatic style and love for hockey is inspirational and fun for campers.
Christy Morgan, Associate Head Coach
Christy Morgan is in her first season as the associate Head Coach at Wake Forest University. She rejoins the collegiate coaching ranks after head coaching positions at James Madison and Davidson. While at James Madison, she led the Dukes to a NCAA National Championship and multiple final four appearances. Prior to winning the National Championship as a coach, Christy won three National Championships as a player at Old Dominion and is a former Olympian representing the US in Seoul in 1988. Since 1994, Christy has owned CirclePlay Inc., a company hosting field hockey camps and clinics and motivational speaking sessions. Christy adds a unique and palpable energy, expertise, and experience to the Wake Forest Field Hockey camp and motivates campers to achieve their personal best.
Christina Restivo, Assistant Coach
Assistant Coach, Christina Restivo, has completed 4 seasons at Wake Forest, with two ending in final four appearances. At Wake Forest, Christina primarily works with the goalkeepers. She also is the head coach at the Wake Forest Futures Site and actively works summer camps all over the country. Prior to her working at Wake Forest, Christina played at the University of Maryland during the 2002-2006 seasons. During her time there she won two National Championships and one ACC championship.
Administrative Director, Jill Miller
Jill Miller is starting her 6th year as the Administrative Director of the Wake Forest Field Hockey Camp. Miller directs all administrative aspects of camp. She is the contact person for all camp questions and concerns. Miller, a former collegiate gymnast and current ultra runner and outdoor enthusiast, is passionate about physical fitness and youth athletics and works to make you and your child’s camp experience easy, fun, and rewarding.
Support Staff
Averill’s and Restivo's support staff include many beloved past and current Wake Forest players. Numerous NCAA Championship, All-Americans, and National Team players return each summer to the Wake Forest campus to pass on to campers their knowledge and excitement for the game. The staff experience and energy create an environment for learning and a lot of fun.
